What every client needs to hear before getting a coach…
Getting the right coach can be very nerve racking!
You are trusting a coach with your body, health, and goals and there are so many to choose from.
So, I wanted to give you 3 important questions to base your decision on:
- Are you ready to have a coach?
Having a coach isn’t just going to get you in shape itself. Online coaching and personal training are both popular because they are very effective. But it’s also become fashionable on the back of that.
Which means some people have coaches, but they don’t get the results they pay for.
Why is this?
Coaches are responsible but so are clients. You can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make it drink and all that jazz…
To get effective results with a coach you must be open to learn and think differently.
It’s not just about discipline and structure to get in great shape.
To achieve more than you ever have, you must be open to approaching your health and fitness in a more holistic way. Which includes your mindset.
So, it’s not necessarily just about doing workouts but approaching this in a completely different way to how you have in the past.
Is that something you are willing to do?
To get something you’ve never had, you have to do something you’ve never done.
2. Is your coach open and does he get you?
For you to be receptive to a coach’s methods you must believe in him.
What have they achieved themselves & how much does he/she understand about your current situation? Mentally, physically, and emotionally.
This creates trust. The reason I get great results with my clients is because we have an honest relationship which creates trust and teamwork.
When people lose faith in the process or a programme, it’s because they think their situation is different and that means their problem can’t be solved.
They then give up!
It’s my job as a coach to articulate the process with you so that you have full confidence that what you are going through, is normal and you are on track.
If you are off track, there’s always a way I can steer you back on.
- This requires you to raise your concerns with me about your struggles in the past and present.
- This is the big difference between Coaching and Personal training.
- Coaching creates growth in your confidence, competence, and results.
- Personal training alone is learning how to eat and train better.
- But before we eat and train better, we first must think clearer and have a lifestyle that supports what we want to do consistently.
- This is what will get you the results you want.
- Anything less, creates frustration in my experience.
- One of my favourite quotes: “Skillset and no mindset will leave you upset”.
3. What you want vs what you need?
It’s great to be excited by the results you want and to be motivated by your new coach and community.
But it’s also important to ask yourself what do you need too?
There are times where motivation isn’t enough.
A positive text from your coach isn’t enough.
And in those difficult times where it’s very easy to revert to old habits.
It’s a coach’s job to steer you back on track.
- Accountability.
- Feedback.
- Support.
These are the things you need to get the results you want.
Wanting the process to be plain sailing is what makes many people come up short.
False expectations only fuels disappointment in my experience.
Which is why many people turn to fad diets.
But wanting to be empowered and evolved by the process requires someone to always have your back.
Which includes the times that you want to bury your head in the sand.
If me and my clients aren’t doing, we are learning and reflecting on what did or didn’t go wrong.
Burying my head in the sand with my health and fitness kept me frustrated for years.
So, it’s my job as your coach to make sure you keep moving forward and improving.
I hope you choose a coach based on what you know you need.
The fitness industry is full of shiny new objects that grab your attention.
Yes, this is an investment for you to excited about.
But part of you being excited, is knowing there’s no room for failure in this investment.
