3 Things you SHOULDN'T be doing to lose weight!!

These are the 3 things that I see, causing many people to fail and go back to where they started off or even worse.

It takes a lot of energy to get started with training and eating better, so you don't want to keep starting over again.

So I'll share with you these behaviours beforehand to save you time and energy.

  1. Adopting something you won’t keep up to get to the result.

How can you know something will or won’t stick for you long term?

The biggest sign is that you dread every second in the process and you are only fussed about the outcome.

I like to lift weights not just for the physical results, but for how it makes me feel in the process.

So, I like to the process AND the outcome.

Win win.

Which means more motivation, consistency and results. Which all serve as positive feedback loops for me to continue. (Momentum)

Hence why I’ve done it consistently for years.

I’ve also tried cutting carbs to lose weight.

I liked the sound of the outcome, but I hated the process.

So, it never worked.

The negative feedback I got from this was: You aren’t disciplined enough Brenton. You don’t want it bad enough.

This worsened my relationship with healthy eating and resulting in me being my own biggest critic.

If you don’t know what you like yet, you need to start experimenting to find what you do like.

Do you thrive off social exercise? Something competitive? Do you like feeling empowered by beating personal targets? Or is it a type of exercise that allows you to switch off mentally?

Just don’t do something that you hate and feel like you must because someone else says you have to.

There are many ways to get the results you want.

  1. Compromise other things you value in the process.

This is the problem with fads and quick fixes.

You can get quick results with them, but you sacrifice values like: Mental health, social life, autonomy, flexibility, and career to get there.

Most of the clients I work with have been burnt badly by fad diets.

Which often knocks your confidence and self-belief that you can achieve what you want.

At once it was appealing to them to get fast results, but then they did it and realised they also value their relationships, career, and hobbies.

Health and fitness is meant to compliment your life, not complicate it.

Complimenting your lifestyle requires asking…

When do I have the most energy to exercise?

What would I look forward to?

What foods do I want to keep in my diet that I can have in moderation?

What foods am I willing to compromise that aren’t necessary?

If you want fast results only. It’s a sign that you’re thinking from a place of fear.

And this is usually when we aren’t thinking clearly.

The other extreme is thinking from a place of excitement and naive optimism.

But in the rational middle ground you can ask yourself…

“What does a sustainable healthy lifestyle look like for me?”

“How can I play to my strengths and around my weaknesses?”

"How can I make weight loss more fun for me?"

This is logical, personal and reliable.

If you want the next time you get fit to work for you, use this approach!

  1. Beat yourself with a stick to get results.

Most professionals I work with, have gained a high level of success from beating themselves with a stick to get where they are.

All or nothing mentality.

Neglecting their health for career.

Extreme levels of discipline and much more.

It’s benefitted them in promotions, pay rises and so on.

This worked for them and most likely for you too.

But that was most likely in a phase in your life where that was all you focused on…

You might have been single, or you had plenty of time on your hands to pour into that one thing.

But with health and fitness it’s different.

Most people don’t ONLY want to be fit and healthy.

You want to be healthy and strive in your career and enjoy family time too.

Beating yourself with a stick, isn’t realistic for you anymore.

Is it worth sacrificing time with your kids? Is it worth not going to social events out of the fear of messing up your diet?

I hope the answer is no.

Here’s what’s happened, you’ve been rewarded for beating yourself to get results.

So you have a sub-conscious belief that it's the only way that works.

And now you are either scared or sceptical of balance?

You probably don’t believe you can achieve what you want this way…

Well, I’m here to tell you that’s exactly how I get my clients results.

We work smart not just hard.

Rest and recovery is tactical for performance and consistency.

Have you ever noticed that when you are having fun you are effortlessly effective in what you do?

We want to install an element of that into your healthy lifestyle.

If you haven’t noticed, all three points I’ve made today are mindset oriented.

Which is great because our mindset is malleable.

Meaning with support, the right environment and perspective our mindset can be moulded to serve us and our goals.

It also affirms that there is no 1 size fits all approach to this healthy lifestyle malarkey.

It’s not about carbs or fats.

Morning workouts or evening.

A lot of that stuff is the tip of the iceberg.

They account for like 2% of what will get you the results you want.

It’s best to start with an open mind with either a coach to guide and help you.

Or you experimenting with something you’ve never done before and an attitude you never had before.

I can be like Morpheus in the Matrix and you'll be Neo.

Or I'll be Yoda and you can be Luke Skyewalker.

Your choice 😁
